SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS

Bursaries and scholarships are awards given to qualifying students by universities, colleges, employers and service clubs.

Bursaries are normally based on a student's financial need or for children of employees of medium to large companies.

Scholarships are usually based on a student's academic performance.  Some awards are given automatically, others require   application.

Ask your parents to inquire at their place of business and/or their union.

Some points to remember:

  • Getting a good scholarship means putting together a first class resume, a strong application letter and good references.  Start now and keep updated.

  • There is money available for students going to college and/or university.

  • Many institutions/organizations offer bursaries to students in financial need.  You need to show you are a worthwhile candidate.

  • All universities and some colleges offer scholarships to students who achieve very high marks.  The higher your average, the higher the awards can be. Please check the web site of the school you will be attending for information on Presidents, Chancellors and Admissions Scholarships.

  • Regularly check the Scholarship bulletin board and the Scholarship filing cabinet in guidance for more complete information about various scholarships. Please do not remove this information. Photocopies can be made.

  • Many community service and local awards presented at Graduation  follow specific criteria and are decided by a staff graduation awards committee.

The following describes only some of the awards that are available.  You will notice that specific qualities are stressed along with high marks.  Check the filing cabinet in Guidance for more details and other awards. (Dates and amounts are subject to change.  Please check)
